The Secrets to Longevity: Exploring the Latest Scientific Revolution

Updated: Jul 16

The hottest topic in aesthetics right now is 'Longevity.' Although this term has been around for some time, turning 50 this year made it the perfect moment for me to embrace the concept and aim for a better life. What truly captured my attention is the astounding fact that science has now demonstrated that ageing can actually be reversed.

Longevity is the science and practise of optimising healthspan and lifespan. We are all living much longer than our bodies are designed to, with 83 years being the current average life expectancy of a woman in the UK. However, only 64 of those years are typically spent in good health, while the remaining 19 years are often marked by poor health. Ageing is the primary risk factor for major diseases like cardiovascular disease, dementia, and cancer. Research indicates that reversing the ageing process is now possible, but the question remains: how can we achieve this in practice, and how can we measure it?

There are 12 key cellular processes that cause the ageing process. These are referred to as the Hallmarks of Ageing and include chronic inflammation and stem cell exhaustion. Our chronological age is an ever steady progression, with every 12 months making us a year older, but our biological age is dictated by the health of our cells and can be an entirely different number. If we can reduce these ageing cellular processes, we literally can reduce our biological age.

It is extremely exciting that there is now a finger prick blood test that can measure your biological age. GlycanAge test measures glycans, carbohydrate polymers which are on the surface of every single cell in our bodies. We can use this test to see if the changes we make to our lifestyle and other positive interventions have made an impact on our biological age. These tests can be done at home or in clinic and the report provides information about biological age and areas of health to prioritise.

Scientists talk of The Spiral of Longevity, which is essentially 8 areas where we can influence our biological age. These are:

  • Diet

  • Supplements

  • Medication

  • Sleep

  • Exercise

  • Regenerative Therapies (in clinic)

  • Regenerative Therapies (at home)

  • Social Connection and Recovery

The GlycanAge test can be used to assess the success of any of these areas and has been used in the Nuchido Time+ Clinical Trial. For any sceptics out there, this is a double-blind placebo-controlled crossover human study, which proved that the Nuchido Time+ supplement reversed biological aging.

Unsurprisingly, I have incorporated this remarkable longevity supplement into my daily routine and am excited to experience the benefits of boosted NAD+ levels!

Since 2023, aesthetic clinics have embraced regenerative therapies such as polynucleotides, exosomes, PRP, and red LED light therapy, with The Courtyard Aesthetic Clinic seeing excellent results from some of these treatments.

At-home practices like saunas and ice baths have also demonstrated regenerative and longevity benefits. Given their busy lives, people are seeking easy solutions, making small changes like adding dietary supplements to boost NAD+ levels increasingly popular.

I am committed to supporting and championing my clients in making positive longevity changes. By encouraging healthier lifestyle habits and offering treatments that help them thrive, I aim to ensure they feel confident and well.
